WESTWORLD (Crichton, 1973) - I was halfway through A SEPARATION when BF proposed watching a lighter film together instead, and to be honest, I was relieved. I know it’s been lauded all over, and so far it’s a good film, but man is it a slog. Anyway. WESTWORLD was not a slog, but loads of fun. It’s basically exactly what you’d think if someone says “Western theme park” and “Robots gone berserk” - though it takes a while before they do, with a lot of time being spent on just how much fun such a theme park would be. It’s sort of JURRASIC PARK-like*, with a dash of TERMINATOR thrown in, Yul Brenner practicing his menacing glares, and a surprisingly bleak resolution.
*not that strange, I realized later, what with the Crichton connection and all.
