LES AMOURS IMAGINAIRES (Dolan, 2010) - Ah, the new wunderkind. It’s not hard to see why he’s been anointed - Dolan’s certainly got style, and he knows how to make an actor look irresistible - but I’m sort of looking forward to the more mature years, when he’ll hopefully have learned to leave the zoom alone and that there are other ways to impart weight to a scene than to start up the slo-mo once again.
…or maybe I’m just a tad bitter that this dude is 4 years younger than I am and an acclaimed film maker. Just a tad. Just maybe.
Anyway, I enjoyed this one, from the awesome wardrobe of the female lead to the pleasantly meandering nature of the plot. I especially liked the chapter breaks, which have people discussing various relationship issues. It’s only tangentially related to the rest, but they’re probably the funniest bits in the film, and they really enrich what would otherwise have been a bit slight.
