TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY (Alfredson, 2011) - gorgeously shot and set-designed though this* is, I felt something was missing. Or, to put it more specifically, I found out about halfway through that I didn’t really care who the mole was. Is it a failure when a movie doesn’t get you interested in its central mystery? Or is it enough that the performances are magnetic (Oldman is great, but Mark Strong is even better - why the hell hasn’t he gotten a meaty leading role yet?), the character beats compelling and the direction pretty much impeccable?
*alternate title suggestion: HOT GUYS WITH UNFORTUNATE HAIRCUTS
