ORPHEE (Cocteau, 1950) - It took me a while to get into this one (see: aforementioned iPod touch), but it’s dreaminess really took me in starting about from this scene: Orpheus’ descent into the underworld, where everything is floaty and strange. Not just to look for Eurydice though - he’s also in pursuit of his (very seductive) death. How metaphoric, sure, but it works. The movie is also quite funny, especially the parts where Orpheus cannot look at Eurydice. They reminded me, in a way, of PUSHING DAISIES, except that there the forbidden sense was touch.
