ZOMBIELAND (Fleischer, 2010) - It was interesting watching NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and this back to back. One’s the start of a genre, the other feels like an endpoint, a summing up of everything in between full of affection and mockery. Not only does it know the rules, it makes them explicit (and then breaks a few, of course), and for a film about the zombie apocalypse, there’s a great sense of fun. I don’t mean just that it’s funny - SHAUN OF THE DEAD is arguably funnier - but that the characters seem to be having a good time, and it’s infectious, and smoothes over the dumber moments.
