VIVACIOUS LADY (Stevens, 1938) - Apparently Ginger Rogers and James Stewart were dating when they made this movie, and it shows: they look at each other with such marvel that you buy their completely implausible courtship. The movie’s a lot of fun, though it has some weak spots (everything in botany class, for instance). I especially loved the catfight and the interaction between Stewart’s parents. It’s no forgotten gem, but it shows just how well they could do these sort of movies back then.
