EASY A (Gluck, 2010) - Emma Stone is utterly charming, unafraid of looking silly, and the best thing about this movie. Now that we’ve got that out of the way: the movie itself was a pretty terrible choice for an evening with BF. See, he really cannot handle second-hand embarrassment, so for much of the movie, he was sitting backwards on the couch intently studying the bookcase. I shudder to think what would happen if I ever introduced him to THE OFFICE, or something like that, because it really isn’t so bad here - yes, the protagonist does some embarrassing things, but I liked how the mechanics and the gradual escalation of lies were put on screen. I did think the ending was poorly thought through (I mean, really, she throws a whole lot of people under the bus just for a high school reputation), but I was happy there was an acknowledgement (through the always awesome Patricia Clarkson) that promiscuity is not always a terrible/devastating thing, and there are enough funny lines to gloss over the more dubious plot points.
